On Feb. 12, 2025, the Boston Red Sox signed free agent Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract with an opt-out after his second season.
This is just another addition to a busy offseason for Boston's front office. Back in December, the Red Sox acquired LHP Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for prospects.
Crochet, the 6'6" 25-year-old, is coming off a monster year. In his first season as a starting pitcher, he finished 7th in strikeouts with 209 and was named an all-star for the first time in his career.
With the additions of Crochet and Bregman, the Red Sox have made major strides this offseason. But does that make them a true contender for the AL East crown?
Before jumping the gun, it should be said that the New York Yankees have the best odds of winning the AL East in 2025. Even though they lost slugging outfielder, Juan Soto, this team is coming off a World Series appearance and should not be taken lightly.
Looking to return to the World Series in 2025, the Yankees went out and acquired stars Cody Bellinger, outfielder from the Chicago Cubs, and closer Devin Williams, an all-star pitcher from the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Yankees will be the team to beat in the AL East and the Red Sox know it. Everybody knows how deep the rivalry between the two teams goes and you better believe these two organizations will put on a show to establish dominance over the other in 2025.
Also, let's not forget that the young Baltimore Orioles and the power bats of the Toronto Blue Jays will also be in the hunt for the division title.\
After two straight postseasons of failure, the Baltimore Orioles will be looking to show their opponents that they are not a squad full of rookies anymore and that they will stomp over you if given the opportunity.
The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to get back in the playoffs after missing the postseason in 2024. The Blue Jays went and signed a couple of big names this offseason in veteran Max Scherzer, switch-hitting beast from Baltimore Anthony Santander, and the former gold-glove winner from Cleveland Andres Gimenez.
The AL East is the toughest division in the American League. So many of the game's stars come from the East in Aaron Judge, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Rafael Devers, Giancarlo Stanton, Gerrit Cole, Felix Bautista, etc.. The race for the AL East division title will be close and exciting from start to finish.
